June 14, 2007 Let’s Go “Home”

Los Feliz has so many hidden spots in its nooks and crannies. There’s No Place Like Home (Home for short) is one of those places. If you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, lunch or dinner or maybe a neighborhood spot to grab a drink, swing by this East Hollywood joint. Whether you’re from the area or not, you’re always welcome at Home. Find out what’s in store after the jump…
The main attraction to Home is the lush outdoor dining. On a gorgeous summer morning in California, there’s nothing better than eating outside and taking in your surroundings. Walking under the green and yellow sign, there are tables scattered over the main area and set alongside the perimeter, nestled between trees and heat lamps for those chilly nights. In the middle of the greenery is a fully stocked bar for morning mimosas or evening vodka tonics. Towards the back, anyone who wants to sit away from the lively atmosphere can dine in seclusion in the indoor rooms.
Besides the relaxed, casual vibe, it’s the food that takes the cake at Home. From breakfast to lunch to dinner, you can get some of the best food you’ve ever had. Seriously. If you want that down-home feel, grab a bowl of oatmeal or a stack of pancakes. Or you can step a bit more on the limb and try the Southern chicken fried steak and eggs or Tex-Mex burrito. Lunch and dinner offer a truly varied and extensive list of salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers and pizzas, ranging from devilishly caloric to healthy and satisfying.
We stuck with breakfast although we were eating during the most confusing mealtime of the day—brunch. Everything—the French toast, the steak and eggs and the ham and cheese sandwich—was splendiferous. Our plates were piled high, and by the time we were done, our stomachs were stretched tight. But our wallets were not! All breakfast items range from $3-$12, which is also a nice quality of the place. From the lunch and dinner menus, you can grab a burger or sandwich for $8, a pizza for $10 or a rib-eye steak for $20. No complaints there.

What else is there to say about Home? Well, here’s what you should keep in mind. The cocktail menu is thorough, so make sure you’re ready to try their martinis, muddlers or blended beverages. They’ll keep you cool on the warm days and warm and fuzzy on the cold nights. If you can get there between 9:00 am and 11:00 am Monday through Friday, you can get most of their breakfast items for just $4.95. And keep this in mind. If it’s a rainy day in LA—a true cats and dogs rainy day—you can buy any breakfast or lunch menu item and get the second half off. Last but not least, there’s a fountain covered with toy dinosaurs and swarming with koi. Fun, right?
Robert Frost said, “Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in“. Something about that rings true for not only your family but this eatery as well.

how much are they paying you for this mention???? HOME feels kind of dirty….. the food is, at best, average diner food…. prices are a little high considering the relatively low quality of the food.
