Love muffins, it seems like this year is shaping up to be a YEAR OF THE DIVAS!
For the past couple of years, we have been subjected to mediocrity in the music industry. Little girls, who shall remain nameless for the sake of this post, have been running around calling themselves “divas”, lip synching in concerts, and dancing half-naked in their music videos. All the while, they’re selling millions of records and laughing all the way to the bank. And we’re all willing to go along with the ride until we realize….wait a minute, some of these chicks have no real talent.
Don’t get me wrong, I like a catchy tune and a flashy performance just as much as the next guy but at some point the talent has to come first. If you present yourself to the world as a “singer”, you should be able to sing as good or better than the chicks I hear singing at any Baptist church below the Mason Dixon line. I’m not really all that interested if a star can execute a dance routine flawlessly or if her stage show involves pyrotechnics shooting out of ungodly places. If that’s all she can do then she should have been a background dancer. This brings me to my point…
In the late-80s and early-90s we saw the arrival of three true divas. These ladies were singers in every sense of the word. Whitney, Mariah, and Celine (that’s the order that they made their debuts in the US market, so don’t get all crazy with this post!) came on the scene like a series of vocal tidal waves. Not since Aretha Franklin had the world experienced voices that were so profound and so influential. You can’t listen to the radio today without hearing a female singer who embodies the vocal acrobatics of at least one of these divas. But by the end of this year, we won’t have to settle for feeble imitations any longer. By the end of the year, the originals will retur. Get ready Love Muffins, the Divas are coming back!

In March, Whitney Houston went down to LA to start recording for her new album. She’s reportedly been working with heavy-hitting songwriter Diane Warren and is set to record a song written by R. Kelly entitled “I Look to You”.

Mariah Carey recently built a studio in the island of Anguilla and will be spending an entire month working on new material with previous writing partner, Johnta Austin, and producer Brian Michael Cox. Currently the album is set for a November release.

Let’s be honest, only Mariah is gonna sell. Celine has been in Vegas so long, and we all know vegas is Career Retirement. Whitney, come on..that voice has been beat down by Bobby and Drugs and smoking. While Mariah doesn’t sound as good as she did in the 90’s, and when she isn’t lipsinging high notes live…she still can produce a hot song…”MINE AGAIN”.

Celine will have a great album, and it will do great, but I’m not too excited about it, and Whitney, well, Whitney deserves to have some success again, and I hope she finds it, but, I gotta give it to Mariah Carey. All 3 are amazingly talented, but Mariah has my vote because she can do so many things with her voice, be it hip hop, ballads, gospel, jazz, and even country(for the movie Tennessee). She gives you more variety, keeping you from getting tired of her. Make the album good Mimi.

All amazing voices and talent, but Mariah is the obvious choice for overall best diva of these 3. She offers a lot more variety in her music than the other two, and as already mentioned, she co-writes and produces her own music. I love all of their voices for different reasons (When You Believe – awesome), but Mariah’s the winner in the end. I don’t think Whitney or Celine will sell well at all in comparison though. Sorry…..

Mariah is just lucky with her previous release, however she only won grammy consolations, a category for the mediocre.
Celine Dion is the best selling female artist among the three with the monster album Falling Into You and Let’s Talk About Love. Selling a total of 65 million copies for just two albums. A feat Mariah can only dream about.

The three ladies in this category are all vocal giants, but my vote goes for Carey. She’s the entire package and luck has nothing to do with it. You don’t become the number one selling female recording artists of all time on luck alone. She writes her own songs, produces, and has such an extensive range. Hands down, Carey will outsell the competition, as she usually does.

P.S, Celinefan..please know your facts before you speak. She has been recording solo music the longest, and of the three, Celine has sold the least and has had a much smaller cultural impact. I have nothing against her, but one should know what they are talking about before they choose to speak.

Whilst all these girls are great vocalist, only one writes all her own songs, produces her albums and directs some of her videos. THAT is talent! Celine simply gets songs sent to her and she sings them. The songs are not personal to her at all.
Mariah is the biggest selling female artist, then madonna.

I gotta give this to Mariah. She makes great songs and she knows how to use her voice in different format. Yes its not as powerful as it used to be but come on now. We all know she can sing already. I don’t want someone screaming at me all the time per example Christina! She yells the same note that I got so bored of her voice. With Mariah, she writes and produced her own matterials. Broken lots of records and continue to do so. In this industry that is so cruel when you hit a certain age. People won’t care about you when you don’t make any good materials. I’m a big fan of Celine & Whitney both outstanding singers of their own rights. I got bored of them ever since they disappeared and the fact that they don’t write their own songs gives Mariah the advantage. They rely on other songwriters to give them a hit. Also I read early on this blog that Celine sold lots of record clearly we are talking about english studio albums. French album don’t count. Come on do you really listen to her french albums? Whitney on the other hand as much as she denies all these allegations of her drug problems. She should accept it that hey I made a mistake and simply just like you guys. Come back with strong materials. We know you can sing. And I’m really looking forward to your new album. If its hot I’ll buy it If not then I’m sorry. So before scatch me with you guy’s nails because I’m telling the truth. Look it up first before you start saying something stupid that clearly you don’t know nothing bout nothing. Celine’s french album are so good. but i don’t like her singing in english. The thing is that celine’s songs are too much for girls. Whereas mariah’s songs are played in night clubs as well. Y’know what I look forward to ALL THREE, I wish the best and every success for ALL THREE, and even if I don’t buy Celine or Whitney, I will still champion them, because I want to see TRUE TALENT excel in the spotlight again, in EVERY genre.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that I’m Mariah’s girl all they way, but moreso, I wanna see these women SHINE – they’ve EARNED the right to after all.
I’ve been a Whitney fan practically my entire life (26), a Celine fan since that ‘Mislead’ song – even though I don’t own any of her albums now, doesn’t mean I won’t one day – and an MC fan for nigh on 18 years. I want to see them ALL rightfully taking back their places as Queens of the Game.
I think Whitney will make an impact, just because SO many people are back on her team now that she’s gotten rid of the deadweight dragging her down, but I don’t know if I see crazy, record breaking sales in her near future. Personally, I’d like to see her a little more humble about her fall from grace, because I do think she put her hardcore fans through alot. Having said that, Mariah’s BEEN humble from day ONE (no matter how many like to fictionalize a vastly different persona), and whilst the non-ignorant saw that for what it was (pure & honest recognition of human fallibility), the doggedly-determined bullies that ARE the tabloid media just didn’t care, and continued leading the masses in poking a proverbial stick at her, so what hope is there for Whitney?
Celine Dion is an absolute sweetheart, and for some reason, it seems that the nicer she is, the meaner people are? Again, like with Mariah, I don’t get that; why is it wrong to be nice? Again, I think she’ll impact, but I don’t think it’ll be a monster smash like the MiMi album was.
I think all three will have the same thing to beat – Mariah’s last album. It’s gonna be stoopid tough for her this time round because EVERYONE wanted her to fail AGAIN, and she didn’t; she handed the world their ASSES – AGAIN. This time round, no matter what she does, it’s going to be held up against ‘MiMi’ in comparison, and the SLIGHTEST deviance will be heralded as failure, which is RIDICULOUS.
I gotta say though – WOWSA. I find it HILARIOUS that so many people wanna hate on Mariah, for what reason? She’s a beautiful, talented, kindhearted HUMAN BEING. More than that, just a generally all-round NICE LADY – why is that SUCH a bad thing, and SO hard for you to accept?!? It’s SO dumb and pitiful to be that hateful – she’s not a murderer, or a rapist or freakin’ psycho, so why so nasty? I don’t think I’ll EVER understand it…

Definitely Mariah Carey… The woman is talent personified. I don’t get why so many people like to hate on her. Jealousy is an ugly little monster. She’s got an incredible voice. Regardless of the fact that it’s not what it used to be, she can still sing circles around anybody in the business right now. She writes 99.3 percent of her own material. She produces. She directs. She’s a philanthropist. She is so so hot… YEah, definitely looking forward to her album the most. That’s not to say I don’t like these other two ladies. They both have amazing voices as well. But to me they are just amazing singers. Mariah is an amazing ARTIST.

I wish success for all of them, even as I know it´s going to be difficult specially for Celine…Mariah is on top form and Whitney has a lot of buzz on her because of her “return”, but Celine really needs a miracle, she keeps making duets with dead people (now with Elvis, previously with Sinatra) and making ballads, she doesn´t have credibility to do urban music so radios probably will ignore her.

I am a fan of all 3 but I have to go with Mariah on this one. Unlike the others she is the most relevant. (The Emancipation of Mimi) Also considering that she is the most involved with her music as oppose to just going into the studio and being told what to sing- (and really thats not a knock on the others cause some people aren’t meant to be good singers and good songwriters, producers, et cetera)so due to all of that and her having the best material that jumps genere’s Mariah is my choice.

Mariah will have the best album! Mariah is on top form. I haven’t heard a Celine song on the radio for more than 6 years, last time I heard Whitney on the radio was around 5 years ago. The last time I heard Mariah on the radio was yesterday haha! Goes to show what the general public like. Mariah is the only 1 who’s voice fits all styles of music too. I’d rather listen to an album knowing that the artist has spent agggeeess working on it, rather than buy an album that’s been put together quite quickly. Mariah helps write all the songs and produce the tracks. Celine just gets her songs handed to her, and also Whitney does too.

I want to see Whitney make a big comeback but that would be tough. I predict she’ll do fairly well but nowhere near the monster that Mariah’s TEOM was. I have always been a fan of all 3.. They all have great voices.. However, Mariah will always be my #1.. I feel her song more… They r more personal (of course, she write & arranges almost all her songs) Mariah is more into her fans… Whitney just seems like a nasty person… I think that reality show she did with Bobby hurt her career even more… Celine is a powerful singer but i don’t see her really coming out with another smash album.. Only time will tell.. Remeber, Mariah had a handful of hits on her last album not just one… It proves she still got alot more to give.. I wish them all good luck & hope they show these younger 1/2 talent wannabe’s how its really done…
