April 10, 2007 UK Beat Makers: Disco is Not Dead!

The UK disco-duo known, the Shapeshifters, are such an amazing musical conglomerate. Known in the U.S. as Shape:UK due to a conflict with a band of similar nomenclature in Los Angeles, the band continues to make its mark all over the world. Their most popular song, “Lola’s Theme”, was released in Summer 2004. It is an amazing song about change, growth, the beauty of relationships and the ability to recognize that life is to be lived beautifully!

Their other song “Back to Basics” revisits the feel good music of 70’s disco. It is an amazing track with nostalgic qualities. Last but not least is “Sensitivity” with Chic. I love! What is up with prominent UK producers that specialize in ridiculously amazing beats finding strong black female vocalists to bring their beats to life?! Whatever it is – the formula is working.

Basement Jaxx is another band that applies the very same formula! “Oh my Gosh”, “Where’s your head at”, “Hey You”, and especially “Breakaway” are my all time favorites. The British are coming! And, I love it!

Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 34th Annual Gala Tribute to Diane Keaton – Outside Arrivals

I’m not too sure about this ensemble Sarah Jessica Parker rocked at a tribute to Diane Keaton yesterday. I personally think this was a fashion misstep that caused her to look like a little old lady (just like Diane Keaton). So what do you love muffins think: Hate It or Love it?

Fashion Forward: Tips by Travis McCoy

travis-mccoy-2.jpg

Travis McCoy, the gargantuan frontman for the band Gym Class Heroes, is effortlessly chic. At 6′5″, the punk-hop (punk rop + hip hop) artist stands above the rest without feeling the need to stand out. He doesn’t take fashon seriously yet he is a beacon of style. He is messy coordination and we love it. Travis sports cardigans, a fashion essential this season, and owns an arsenal of designer hoodies which help to build a wardrobe foundation. McCoy also recommends kangol fadoras (rocky style) or new era baseball caps – always with a fresh sticker to accessorize any look. Last but not least, the indie-rock-rap star prefers Diesel jeans – built to last, sleek yet casual and never too tight. He claims that as long as he can do the “James Brown” dance in them – he’s alright!

Throwback video:

I love Gym Class Heroes and their music. “Cupid’s Chokehold” as a song was such a breath of fresh air and the music video was just so light, romantic and feel-good. I see them going far in the future!

Is This Toni Braxton?

I almost didn’t recognize Toni Braxton who obviously went to the same plastic surgeon as Vivica A. Fox and bought herself a new face! Toni, whose son Diezel has autism, headlined the Concert for Autism Speaks Benefiting Autism Research last night. Her good deed of the day does not take away the fact that Toni has destroyed her natural beauty. Why Toni? Why face reconstruction?

Throwback Video: The Smurfs

In celebration of the month of April and all its festiveness, here is a throwback episode of the 1980’s classic cartoon – The Smurfs. This episode is entitled “April Smurf’s Day.” Clearly, whoever invented this cartoon was on PCP or some type of hallucinogenic drug. It was definitely one trippy cartoon! But we love!
