April 20, 2007 The Story of the Boy with the Famous Mane

On Wednesday’s American Idol, Sanjaya, the boy who’s hair we all wanted to style was finally ousted. Cue the sad music on stage two. “Did you ever know that you’re my hero! Everything I would like to be!” Were you a Fanjaya? Are you sad to see him go?

Whether you love him or hate him, some thought that the 17 year old would unravel the fabric of American Idol if he won. It’s interesting because Idol was putting out decent singers and only making fun of those that couldn’t sing but America loved Sanjaya and his to-die-for hair and kept the boy going until last night. I’m sure Simon can now breathe easier but still we have to question Idol’s validity. They’ve put out some great talent like Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, and Ruben “Where Am I Now?” Studdard but if someone like Sanjaya can come this far, does it make the whole show nothing but a modern day public execution? We love to see certain people stay and we love to see certain people go. Will it ever matter again if they can sing or not?

Here’s a look back at the man with the most famous mane in America:

  • Ruben (where are you now) Studdard could only sing one type of song. Anyone can do that, even my cat. I loved Pavorotti’s story. Pavorotti was/is a very famous opera star from Italy. He says that he could not sing, but he was determined to be a great Opera Star. So he went to one of the best singing instructors and practiced and practiced and practiced. As anyone who knows opera knows, he because a top success. His words to everyone was that with determination and hard work, anyone can become a good singer.

I love Sanjaya. He’s 17 and has a full life ahead. If all of this bashing has not stomped on his spirit, I hope that he will get a good singing instructor and show the world how wonderfully talented he really is.

  • He should have gone out on AI singing “Bare Necessities” from the Jungle Book.
