April 18, 2007 Hate It Or Love It: Avril Lavigne
Usually this girl never has an outfit on that I particularly like, so this is no surprise. For her album release party in New York tonight, she showed up in this fairy-tale princess dress with scuffed up combat boots. The reason why I say love it or hate it is because I may abhor this red carpet look, but at the same time, I appreciate her desire to stay true to her own, um, uniqueness. Although, she seems to overcompensate and overdo it whenever cameras are on her. How do you explain this?

Of course this is going to sound snarky, but every time I see her all I can think is, “Look at me I’m punk rock! PUNK ROCK! Look at me, I’m so unique and bad ass!!” Well sorry, Avril, but the frilly dresses/skirts and Doc Marten’s has been done before, and done with less frump, I may add. A lack of style does not make you shocking or punk, it simply leaves you as the typical bubble gum mass produced pop singer who tried to jazz it up with a tough attitude. None of this works together, the dress is too long for the boots, her hair, makeup and necklace are too heavy and she ends up looking like a pile of clothes.
/end rant.
Hate it, obviously.
