March 25, 2007 British Invasion: Music Edition
Amy Winehouse
She is one of those rare artists that is probably too talented for her own good. Her music is profound yet her life is so crazy it’s as though she could self destruct at any moment. This R&B songstress has taken the standard Motown sound and flipped it on its head. Her songs have an old-school vibe but the subject matter is anything but traditional. She deals with issues such as rehab, cheating on her man, and dealing with deep depression. Her latest album, Back In Black, has gotten critical acclaim and “Me and Mr. Jones” is SIMPLY FABULOUS. The opening line says is all, “What kind of f@#kery is this?”

Mika
If Mick Jagger and Elton John had a love child, Mika would be his name. His music is bright and colorful like a psychedelic head trip. His debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion, hits stores this Tuesday and “Love Today” will be his second single. You may recognize it from the latest Verizon commercials.
Joss Stone
Regardless of the rumors that are circulating about her, there’s no denying that she has talent. On Introducing Joss Stone, the power and soul of her voice is undeniable. “Bruised But Not Broken” was penned by one of my favorite songwriters, Diane Warren, and is one of the standout tracks from the album.

Paolo Nutini
This Scottish sing-songwriter isn’t your ordinary pop/rocker. The sometimes-sensitive and sometimes-funky rocker has talent oozing from his pores. He new album These Streets has been on repeat in my Ipod and “Last Request” is one of favorites!

Lily Allen
Her brand of pop is irreverent, sassy, and always fun. Sometimes you need to hear music that makes you feel good! Perfect for those lovely spring and summer days! “Knock ‘Em Out” is a campy song about the unwanted advances of guys (the intro of the song is hilarious).
