Dolce & Gabbana: RTW Fall 2007

Dolce and Gabbana always have one of the most anticipated showings in Milan Fashion Week but this year they let me down a little bit. The theme of the new collection should be “5th Avenue Dominatrix”. It’s a nice way for the upper east side wasps to get a little dirty. Model after model came strutting down the runway in METALLIC skirts, CORSET belts, and WHIPS (yes I said whips!). There were also some lighter moments with layered Chiffon and their beautiful OVERCOATS.

The layered chiffon dresses were SPLENDIFEROUS but my beef with the show was that skirts didn’t seem to be pushing fashion forward. There have been so many metallic dresses parading down the red carpets this year’s awards season. It doesn’t seem like D&G were enhancing their artistic vision and I honestly don’t see women still wearing metallic fabrics 6 months from now. It’s a look that’s really current but not long-term! In the end, you can’t deny that Dolce and Gabanna create great clothes and they always make a statement. I just wish their statement would address the future of fashion as opposed to a merely a mirror of what’s already being done.
