February 16, 2007 Ugly Betty’s New Shining Star!
If I have to pick a favorite character from ABC’s hit show Ugly Betty it would have to be the incredibly flamboyant Justin Suarez played by twelve-year-old Mark Indelicato. When that boy dressed up in a sailor suit to be Gene Kelly for Halloween, I thought it was the funniest thing ever. In many ways his passion for fashion and unbridled love of musicals reminds of how I was as a youth and how unusual I must have looked to everyone else.
It’s not often that you see gay youth represented on television in a way that isn’t derogatory (family shows tend to shy away from that sort of thing). I just love the fact that Justin doesn’t give a damn about what anybody else thinks of him. To be so young he’s got a strong sense of himself. It would have been nice to have had a character like that to look up to when I was young but I’m loving it just the same! Dance on sailor!

Loved his rendition of Hairspray.
Glad to see his dad making an effort to accept him for who he is.
