January 7, 2007 Love Jones, Part III
When Norah Jones first stepped on the scene, the soothing vocals and hypnotic melodies of her debut album, Come Away With Me, took the world by storm. Jones came and filled a void in the musical landscape that no one even knew existed. Once the dust settled, she was left with 5 Grammy Awards, over 10 million albums sold, and a debut legacy that seemed impossible to overcome. Her second album, Feels Like Home, beat the curse of the sophomore slump with both elegance and class. Even without the television promotion or massive radio spins given to most artists of her stature, Feels Like Home sold over a million copies in its first week and went on to sell more than 4 million copies in the US.
Now that she has taken some time off, Norah Jones is preparing to release her third album appropriately titled Not Too Late, slated to hit stores on January 30. This album was recorded completely in her home studio and finds Ms. Jones taking on more of the writing credits and exploring deeply soulful vocals. While the lead single, “Thinking About You”, is not much of a departure from the Jones many have grown to love, it still displays her growth as an artist. Jones masters the balancing act of progressing and maturing over time without compromising who she is as an artist. The buzz around her is already brewing and her album has already claimed the coveted top spot on Amazon.com. Somehow the void Norah Jones filled when she arrived in the music industry has yet to be duplicated and the release of Not Too Late seems to be right on time. So break out the Merlot, light a candle, and let the Love Jones takeover.
